Here is the first in a series of 30 pencil and carbon drawings i will be making for these studies. The purpose of these studies and other similar ones is to learn from the mistakes i find in the drawings and draw specific conclusions about the best way to depict the element each study analizes.
Ok, so.. i know that sounded weird and technical.... i'd best get to the drawing.

The shadow is completely incongruous with the actual object. This happened because the sun had almost completely disappeared on the horizon by the time i got to the shadow.
AND... that leads me to lesson #1: Whenever i'm not drawing from a photograph, i should pick a time of the day when the sun doesn't vanish ten minutes after i start. And.. that's a start.
